The God You’d Love to Know

A 9-part series – The better we understand who God is the more likely we are to wonder in amazement at what we discover about Him. This in turn will cause us to develop a greater intimacy with Him, allowing Him to revolutionize our lives, and living life with a greater sense of victory – a life characterized by love, grace, truth, mercy, forgiveness and courage. In fact, the more we get to know Him, the more we will likely see others the way He does – thinking the best of others, not the worst – slow to take offense and quick to give others a second chance.

Note: A major resource for this series was the book “The God You’re Looking For”.

    • He Know’s it All! (Psalm 139:1-6) – In exploring the true identity of God this sermon looks at God’s omniscience – a fancy word describing the fact that God knows it all. We then ask – How should the fact that God knows it all affect our lives?

    • He’s Always There for You! (Psalm 139:7-12) – In looking at God’s essence, no exploration would be complete without a look at His omnipresence – a word that describes the fact that He is present everywhere, always there for us. We then ask – How should God’s omnipresence affect our lives.

    • He’s in Complete Control! (Jeremiah 32:17) – How can we meet life’s challenges with certainty? The answer to that question is found in discovering what it means when we say that God is omnipotent. We then ask – How should the omnipotent God affect our lives?

    • He’s Expressive – Emotional! (Jeremiah 9:24, Matthew 26:38, Exodus 34:6-7, Isaiah 42:3) – God is complete in His expressive nature; emotionally perfect in every sense. Because of this He not only wants a personal & emotional relationship with us, He also wants us to be expressive like He is. (Note: Eugene puts on a dramatic sketch prior to his sermon where he plays 7 different characters).

    • He is My Refuge! (Psalm 36:5-7) – The wonderful news is this: God wants to be our refuge, no matter what life throws at us, no matter how the enemy of our souls wants to discourage us. To learn how we can experience His refuge is a wonder to see.

    • He is Righteous! (Psalm 119:137-144) – Today’s predominant view says, “I determine what's right and wrong for me, no one else.” The Bible, on the other hand, declares that God is the only one who can determine that. The reason for this bold declaration? He alone is Righteous! Which begs this question: How much might we change our way of thinking if we better understood this crucial part of God's character?

    • He is Gracious! (Psalm 103:8-13, Ephesians 2:1-9) – This topic looks at an aspect of God’s nature that in many respects is incomprehensible to the human mind – the fact that God is a gracious God. After exploring what God means when he tells us that He’s gracious we’ll explore how to keep God’s grace fresh in our lives.

    • He is Faithful! (Psalm 36:5-7) - Faithfulness or commitment is not as highly esteemed as it once was, yet nothing holds relationships together more than a willingness to be faithful. In light of that, let’s look at the God who is faithful and learn how to become more faithful to God, our Church and our Relationships.

    • He’s Reliable – He Never Changes! (Psalm 102-25-27; Malachi 3:6) - We live in a world that is constantly changing, exponentially. Experts tell us that those who can best cope with all this change will be the most successful in life. The Bible however, tells us that the best way to cope with change is to get to know the God who never changes, and then learn how God’s unchanging nature can affect us dramatically.
